Spox says EU mulls Magnitsky Act analogue against Russia

BRUSSELS, Sep 17 (PRIME) -- The E.U. is considering elaborating an all-encompassing set of sanctions against Russia, an analogue to the U.S. Magnitsky Act, spokeswoman for the European Commission Nabila Massrali said on Thursday.

Head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said on Wednesday that the European Commission will offer to introduce sanctions similar to the Magnitsky Act against Russia.

"As far as you know, we have received a proposal concerning an all-encompassing set of sanctions of the E.U. concerning the human rights, and we will be discussing it at the Council, we will approve it in the nearest future. This is what the chairwoman (on der Leyen) was talking about," Massrali said.
